The questions we get asked
Before measuring anything, the same questions always come up: does it work, does it mean drilling walls, and how many do we need. Here they are, with our answers.
Measurement and protocol
How can I tell whether my space really has an acoustic problem?
The most reliable sign isn't loudness, it's effort: if people raise their voices to understand each other two metres apart, if video calls are a struggle, if you leave a meeting tired for no reason, the room is reverberant.
The survey settles the question with figures. An expert measures the reverberation time (RT) room by room, empty and if possible in use, and compares it with the recommended threshold for that type of room.
Is the acoustic survey chargeable?
The survey visit is covered as part of an installation project. It results in a measured report and a proposal sized to the actual volume, not a flat rate per square metre.
Contact us with a description of your space: we'll tell you the conditions under which we can come to you.
What exactly do you guarantee?
We commit to a measured acoustic result, not to a quantity of panels delivered. The protocol has three steps: we measure before, we install, we come back to measure after installation.
If the agreed target isn't met at the check measurement, we add to the installation. That is what distinguishes a results guarantee from a simple product guarantee.
How long does it take to notice the difference?
The effect is immediate: absorption works as soon as the objects are hung. The check measurement is usually taken in the days following installation, once the space is back in normal use.
The objects and their installation
Is building work required?
No. Our objects hang by cable from existing anchor points, or stand on the floor in the case of totems. No drilling into walls, no removing suspended ceilings, no changes to the building.
This is a prerequisite for most of our clients, who rent their premises.
How long does installation take?
Half a day in most cases, a full day for large volumes. Business can usually carry on during installation; for public-access buildings, we work outside opening hours.
What are the clouds made of?
Polyester wadding, largely recycled. It is a light, healthy material that absorbs sound through its fibrous structure rather than reflecting it elsewhere.
It doesn't shed, doesn't degrade in light, and its fire rating makes it suitable for public-access buildings.
How many clouds does my room need?
It is calculated, not guessed. The number depends on the room volume, the floor, wall and ceiling materials, the furniture and the use.
As a rough guide, an 8 × 5 × 2.8 m room goes from an RT of 1.74 s to 0.85 s with six clouds. Your configuration will be sized on the actual measurement.
Can they be moved if our offices change?
Yes, that is actually one of the advantages of the system. The objects can be unhooked, moved and rearranged when the layout changes, and go with you at the end of a lease.
How are they maintained?
Dusting with a vacuum cleaner on low power is enough for everyday use. The material doesn't retain odours and needs no special treatment.
Orders, lead times, custom work
What are the manufacturing lead times?
Our pieces are made in Charente-Maritime, France, in partnership with the ESAT (sheltered workshop) in Jonzac. Local production is what allows us to keep lead times short and confirmed at order, including for specific shapes and colours.
Can we choose colours and shapes?
Yes. Each range comes in several sizes and colours, and shapes can be adapted to an architectural project. The colour chart is presented at the layout stage, once the number of objects is known.
What budget should we plan for?
The price depends on the number of objects needed, and therefore on the volume to treat: that is why we don't offer a price per square metre, which would give a wrong figure one way or the other.
The costed proposal is provided after the measurement, with the acoustic target and the corresponding layout.
Do you work outside France?
Manufacturing is in Charente-Maritime and we install throughout mainland France. For projects elsewhere, including outside France, contact us: we look at the conditions case by case.
